The Voortrekker Monument is situated in the
City of Tshwane. It was built to honour the
Voortrekkers (pioneers) who left the Cape
Colony between 1835 and 1854. The
monument was designed by Gerhard Moerdijk.
Construction started on 13 July 1937 and was
completed on 16 December 1949.
