The original Drosdy was built in 1747 as the residence and offices of the Landdrost of Swellendam and purchased in 1939 by the Union Government to serve as a museum. It was officially opened in 1943 and houses a fine collection of late 18th and early 19th century furniture. There is also a vehicle exhibition.
